Simple and clean product

Since most modern computers today don't have external serial or parallel ports, you'd be lucky if they had such legacy support. If so, you'll need one of these if you need to connect a device that requires a serial port connection like this, and as most reviews here say it's a great addition for those who need a serial port to plug into the serial header -Motherboard connector is something that has a 16 inch ribbon cable connector so it will easily fit into almost any available expansion slot.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Suitable for

The title does what it should and does it well.

My ASrock 990FX Extreme 4 motherboard came with a 9 pin serial header. I have a radio programmed with a serial cable and this adapter allows me to move code plugs back and forth with my windows 8.1 installation. It basically does what it's supposed to and I haven't had any problems. I will note for those interested in aesthetics that if you tape off the connector and 9-pin connector you can plaster the whole assembly with plastid to match if you have a darker setup like mine. Plasidip works…

  • Rugged Construction

longest serial cable I could find

This is a fairly simple piece that allows me to extend the ASUS motherboard connector on the front edge to the connector on the back of the case. Most cables are fairly short; it was the longest I could find as a ready-to-use item. This is just enough to cover the distance with a reasonably clean lead. I would have preferred it to be a few inches longer, but it involved connecting some "old" radios with the need to find individual parts. So this part worked well to complete this task.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Clarity

Big! But be careful not to connect it the other way around.

Works as expected. Plug this guy in and get an RS-232 serial port for your computer. However, be careful. Some cheap motherboards don't have a keyed connector around the connector's pins, making it easy to plug it in upside down. Locate the arrow on the black plastic connector (the arrow is shaped and may be difficult to see. It may be next to the red wire on the edge of the ribbon cable) and make sure the arrow is next to the dot or arrow. or a silkscreen cutout on the motherboard (white lines

Pros
  • Nice appearance
Cons
  • Some flaws

Is RS-232 still used? would anyway!

I was surprised that the motherboard I ordered to build a new system had a serial port built in but not on the back with other ports. This adapter plugs into the motherboard and uses one of the slots on the back panel. Good idea and easy installation!

Pros
  • Nice package
Cons
  • Only available in black

NOTE: This is "AT/EVEREX " pinout

Product is fine but the description doesn't mention that these adapters are "AT/EVEREX" style . If your board uses a different standard, they won't work for you (maybe other reviewers had the issue?). If the description were corrected to explain what this guy is and the current compatibility warning was clearer, that would be 5 stars. My Supermicro motherboard needed a different style, "DTK/INTEL". Here's a good description of both: http://pinoutsguide.com/Motherboard/rs232_header_pinout.shtml…

Pros
  • Positive only
Cons
  • Waiting too long

Good serial port: Computer Components

This is a nicely done optional backplate for the serial port. I used it with an ASUS P4P800 SE motherboard, which doesn't have a serial port in the rear I/O connector like most motherboards. how some are equipped. Cable length and connector quality are excellent. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Non-Automatic
