For home use only, no server!

This card is suitable for normal home use, but it is too weak for server use. I bought four and installed two to create a NIC team. Both cards together are slower than a normal integrated LAN port. I tested each of these cards with the iperf3 software, the built-in LAN port gets me 910 Mbit/s, the StarTech card alone or as a team gets me a maximum of 400 Mbit/s. Anyway, I tried using two of them as a backup LAN in the server, but after a year of use, one card starts falling out of the team…

Piece of junk best in computer components

I have a software development company so I'm not new to installing adapters. It came and I installed it. Windows 7 couldn't find the drivers for it and when I tried to install the drivers from the CD it said they were the wrong drivers. Tried everything I could for 2 hours, my screen went blank. The computer did not start. After many tries, I took out the card and the computer booted up. In all my years (30+) of building, repairing and programming computers I have never had this problem. I…

  • Positive only
Cons
  • Style 90

I received this original PCI Gigabit PCI Ethernet card for a customer as their PC's internal LAN connection was due struck by side effects of a lightning strike. Ouch! This PC is running special local software that forces it to stay on Windows XP (again, hooray!). It's so old that it only has the old original PCI slots. It accesses the printers on the internal network, but not the internet (thanks, firewall!). Thing is, there are times when you need to keep OLD computers running, which makes…

Pros
  • High test scores for support and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other models

So far, so good; better than well known competitors

After a false start with not so famous competitors I was after because of the big name, this card worked. easily found via PnP with original Windows 10 drivers. Worked even better with the latest (two year old) drivers from the Startech website. I don't even know what the potential is, but in an internet speed test I get a consistent 300Mbps on average with a heavily outdated desktop box. That's why I needed PCI in the first place. I haven't run any internal tests to see if this actually…

34mm Gigabit Ethernet ExpressCard for Laptops

This has allowed me to add gigabytes of speed to my HP DV5-1119nr laptop at a very reasonable price. I didn't need drivers (there are already Realtek 10/100 card drivers), they connect instantly and don't slow down the computer or processor by adding an ExpressCard adapter. It is made of metal and plastic, you need a slot adapter to make the 34mm slot fit into the 54mm slot. The ethernet connector protrudes slightly and can be easily removed with a tug or tug. Overall performance is good, with…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Something's wrong

I had to install a network card because a storm destroyed the built in card on my motherboard. I chose this one because it looks less ugly than the others. It's very discreet and doesn't ruin the look of my setup. It's completely plug and play. So if you don't have an optical drive, Windows will happily install a generic driver for you. Haven't done much with it yet, but as far as I can tell performance is identical to the LAN card built into my motherboard. However, none of the included…

Easy to Install for NICs

After seeing a forum post stating that Intel no longer has a LAN division (I haven't confirmed this, but it influenced my purchase decision), I researched other vendors on Revain Upgrading an old computer that was recently upgraded to Windows 10. I needed a reliable LAN network card. It uses a Realtek-based adapter (FYI). Ok, easy to install. But the drivers that were available a few weeks ago didn't talk about Windows 10. I contacted tech support and they said their old Windows 8 drivers would

Perfect plug and play solution for Windows 10

Great little card that just plugs in and works for Windows 10. The card comes with a driver CD but it didn't even work for me I had to take it out of my sleeve as I popped it into an open slot in the PC, connected the LAN cable to the router and the card and the computer started. It worked right out of the box and Windows took care of the setup and I was up and running in less than 2 minutes. Great card, fast speed and perfect solution for a PC with a broken LAN port and an unreliable WiFi…

Before the purchase I had problems with the internet connection.

Before purchasing and installing this product, I had many problems connecting to the Internet. There were a number of latency and packet loss issues that my ISP was unable to resolve after numerous calls to tech support and technicians visiting my home. One of those techs mentioned that my built-in LAN controller might be the problem, so I decided to take a chance and buy this extra card to offer an alternative cable modem connection. The problem seems to have been solved well as I haven't had…
