You need to download drivers

The device works well, smooth and light. The only issue I had was with the driver CD that came with it. (Installing on a Windows 8.1 system). The drivers WILL be installed but will not see any networks and will only say they are not connected. As someone else said, I had to download the drivers from startech.com. Simply enter the Product ID found on the back of the box for the device you want. After removing the old CD drivers and installing the drivers from the site (with reboot), everything…

PERFECT turned my old Windows XP desktop into a Wi-Fi machine in minutes.

Absolute perfection for an old Windows XP computer. I got an old Dell with XP and I wanted to use it for my kids to do their math discs and papers. However, it is in our classroom in the basement and the modem and router are upstairs. I didn't want to pull a long cable and dig holes in the floor. Thought that because of the super low price I would give this little gem a try. VOILA, it works and it works so easy. Connected, disk inserted, delivered. and BOOM WiFi. GREAT PRODUCT! EASY…

Admit it, I was hesitant because I hate those full-size buttons

I was very surprised by the performance of this USB 2 wireless internet device. Good, very good, and also reserved. I guess my internet speed has doubled. I don't have an instrumental measurement, but it's much faster than the PCI card it replaced.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • There are flaws

Great for Linux.

Works great! I bought it for use with Linux and an embedded system. Used the install disk and ran the install script, POW it worked! No more searching online for another driver. I've tried two other brands and couldn't get them to work.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Useless features

I had a crappy wireless card that didn't work well with Windows.

Lenovo has whitelisted some notebook models, which means that only certain internal wireless cards are compatible. I had a crappy wireless card that didn't work well with the Windows 10 upgrade and I couldn't replace it unless I wanted another crappy wireless card, so I looked into USB based cards. I came across this product that has great reviews so I decided to give it a try. All my WiFi issues have been resolved since I switched to this card. It sticks out a little more than the receiver of…

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose

Good device for little money!

Easy installation on Mac OS 10.10 with a .dmg installer file; Easy installation in Windows 10 with built-in operating system drivers; Easy installation on Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows XP Pro using Device Manager to find and install drivers from the installation package. I downloaded the drivers from the Startech website to make sure I had the latest versions so I didn't have to mess with the minidisk that came in the box. If you are also installing Windows Server 2012 R2, note…

Good while it lasted (7 months)

This rating would have been 5 stars if the device had worked according to specs for more than 5 months. After about 5 months he died regularly from me. I would unplug it from one USB port, plug it into another, and everything would work fine. Then today he died completely. Aside from an early death (it was cheap but I expect something like that to last over 7 months) it was very good value for money. Setup was easy - download the latest drivers from the website, no fiddling with the CD - and…

Works out of the box on Windows 10!

Works out of the box with Windows 10! I didn't have to download drivers from Startech or use the driver minidisk that came with it. For me it was completely plug and play. I literally took it out of the box and plugged it in, Windows 10 installed its driver and I was up and running in seconds. I have a Verizon Fios 50/50 and ran speedtest.net and got 56/68 with this little adapter. Some background. I have a Samsung laptop with a broken built-in WiFi adapter. I went into the BIOS, disabled the…
