A week of life, bad design.

Great idea - we need more USB ports and using the C connector is a very practical, even necessary, approach. It's not cheap but I thought it was worth it. It was. a week long. Now USB ports that work well with other slots and hubs won't work with this one (some do). There is no such thing as a good, strong mechanical connection. definitely not recommend

USB-C Hub - 4 x USB-A - 10Gbps

Connected to motherboard (X470/Ryzen 2700X) USB-C port, all 4 USB-A ports tested at 459.1MB /s read and 453.1 MB/s write with a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB installed in a Vantec NexStar USB 3.1 Gen 2 external enclosure (NST-270A31-BK). It's FAST that the drive plugs directly into the SATA III connector and into the actual transfer. I moved the 45GB folder with 4K and 1080P movies that was on the drive to a 1TB NVMe boot drive on the motherboard. It transmits at 405MB/s for the entire transfer, withโ€ฆ

Could be better

The price is not that low simply that way. The good first: 1) Easy connection with Thunderbolt 2) Connected devices recognized almost instantly 3) Ability to seamlessly connect external drives that require power or no power 4) Works to charge devices like headphones when the laptop is powered off. bad1) Probably 10 GB/s. I have one such device and when connected directly via Thunderbolt I get close to the advertised speed of a PCI NVMe 3x4 SSD. However, when the same element is connected to it,

Pros
  • USB-C to USB adapter with two USB 3.0 ports (5Gb/s): 1x USB-A and 1x USB-C / supports speeds up to 5Gb/s
Cons
  • not reliable

Good but expensive computer cable adapters

Oculus Rift and I have at the moment no problem with that. As for researching why it's still 3.0, I haven't even looked into it anymore. I saw that the manufacturer tried to contact me, but I didn't even notice it on my Revain account. In general it could be incompatibility issues as the manufacturer said it is 3.1 Gen 2 and they have tested it. But I'll just take her word for it. So I'm revising my old rating and upgrading it to 4 stars. capable of 10 Gbps, which corresponds to 3.1 gen 2. Butโ€ฆ

Not compatible with TB adapters

For those thinking of trying this: iMac with Thunderbolt 1 used an Apple TB3 to TB2 adapter with a Cellularize USB-C female adapter to connect this StarTech USB hub , and it didn't work. Also does not work with Macbook Pro with TB2 ports (2015). I chose this hub and the Cellularize adapter because they are both Thunderbolt 3 compatible, which is required to use the Thunderbolt ports. The device must be compatible with Thunderbolt. In theory, the setup I chose should have worked. I have no ideaโ€ฆ

Pros
  • USB 3.0 hub with 2 ports, ideal for taking with you when traveling / Compatible with multiple platforms / Ideal for home, office, hot desk, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and CYOD (Choose Your Own Device) Environments
Cons
  • Slightly torn
