Excellent macro lens from TAMRON

Excellent macro lens. I've been using it for a week with great results. The AF is good, but what I like most about this lens is the VC. Great low light shots.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • I have doubts

Great lenses at a GREAT PRICE!

As a wedding photographer, I needed a way to get amazing macro shots without spending a lot of money. I tested this lens because I also have Tamron's amazing 70-200 VC. This lens is great and performs on a variety of levels, from detailed shots to portraits. I mainly use it for ring shots and detail, but as a last resort I've used it for a few portraits when no other lens is around.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • A few little things

Canon EOS R works well with adapter

I used to have this lens when I had a Nikon D750 and loved it. So when I went mirrorless I knew it would be on my shopping list. Then I bought an EOSR mirrorless camera. Yeah I know all the bad things about it, okay I get it. So I got this lens back and hooked it up to the Canon EF-ESO R Adapter and it works like clockwork. I think it focuses better than my Nikon. This is an incredible lens, not only for macro photography but for other purposes as well. I've used it to take some family photos…

Not compatible with Nikon Z6/Z7

This lens works great with my Nikon D7100 DSLR crop sensor. Doesn't work with Nikon Z6/Z7. Tamron doesn't mention it on their website, nor does the Revain description mention it. Loud noises kept coming and the focus point kept poking around. I called Tamron to see if this lens would work with the Nikon Z6/Z7 but they said it wasn't compatible. You don't have updated firmware for the lens to work properly with the Nikon Z6/Z7. I need to find a macro lens compatible with Nikon Z6/Z7.

  • Great price
Cons

Recommend with reservations

Pros: - Excellent sharpness, colors/contrast - Solid build/good quality Cons: - Price compared to a first batch lens - Some significant hunting after focus The cons are the reason why I cannot fully recommend this lens. On Fleabay you can get the Canon 100mm L Macro for $750 with tons of accessories. Given Canon's resale value, that's not a problem either. The Canon focuses faster and can lock into low light without stuttering. This lens is very sharp, but it hunts just as hard as the old 60mm…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Can't fault it, everything is fine

Very sharp and fast focusing

I found this lens to work very well with my Nikon D750. It focuses much faster than my Nikon lens, some of that may be due to the different lens type. It is a fixed focal length or fixed focal length lens, while the Nikon lens (28-300) is an extended range zoom. It's noticeably sharper than the Nikon 105mm macro lens I tried, but you'll have to look into the pixels to see the difference. But for a macro lens, that's an important difference. Incidentally, Dxomark also rates Tamron as sharper 26…

Just great for food, fashion, beauty, food and portrait photography

Very happy with this lens on Nikon D750 and D810. I mainly use this lens for fashion, product and portrait photography. I auto-calibrated the lens using a Reikan FoCal Pro 2 and Tamron's TAP-in-Dock. Needless to say, it's as sharp as it gets. The VC is fantastic and the auto focus is very fast and accurate on my D750 and D810. I didn't see any significant chromatic aberrations or color fringing. I rented a Nikon 105mm macro for comparison (also calibrated with a Reikan FoCal Pro 2) and found my

ALSO BUY THE TAP-IN CONSOLE!

If you are purchasing this lens you MUST purchase the Tamron Tap-in Console first. There is a firmware update that fixes slow focus issues and further improves VC (Image Stabilization). The lens will also work without a tap-in bracket and upgrade, but I suggest you buy them together or plan to buy a tap-in bracket as soon as possible. This lens is simply AMAZING. I'm usually a Canon fan, all Canon lenses. However, I finally decided to try a third-party lens after being frustrated with Canon's…

Tamron does what I want my Nikkor 85/f1.8 to do, but at 2.8

This lens is near perfect. I've always loved the 85/90mm focal length as a regular lens (I'm an introvert). The problem has always been the very limited focusing distance with typical 85mm lenses, especially as they are advertised as 'portrait' lenses. Head and shoulders, that's about it with the focus distance on most 85mm lenses including the Nikon Stellar 1.8 and 1.4. I had both as well as a 105mm Nikkor Makro 2.8 in the latest version and manual focus. I liked the ability to focus close…
