Not exactly what I expected

It didn't fit my Chevrolet Trailblazer's standard roof rack like I thought it would, but I was still able to get it to work. It uses M6 bolts so I was able to go to a hardware store and get the right length for my roof rack.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Clarity

Thule Top Deck is the best among car carriers and holders

Overall, Top Deck is a very good product at a reasonable price. Easily adapts to different kayaks. My only negative comment is that the zip ties and straps are not of the quality that I received with the Thule J kayak rack I purchased.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Not perfect in car racks and carriers

That's exactly what I expected, but if I had thought about it I would have spent a little more money on a trunk with rotating surfaces. I ended up going with a set of J-Racks and leaving them for friends' kayaks and the like. They work, but it takes a little effort to get a decent fit.

  • Few competitors

  • Frequency

Error on the Thule website

The Thule website does a good job of fitting the roof rack to your car let alone fitting the roof rack to what you plan to transport. While I was able to get it to work on my 11-foot ocean kayak, the "boot" doesn't fit comfortably in the four curved pads that make up the saddle. Instead, the kayak rests on the 2 outside edges of each platform. It works but doesn't look comfortable.

Pros
  • Ease of installation
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Worked as stated.

This shelf worked as advertised. I was able to put a kayak in the center of the roof and then put two bikes, one on each side of the kayak, on the same rack system (58 inches). Without rollers, you need two people to put on and take off the kayak. It is also very important to use a towel or mat in the car as it takes two tall people to put the kayak on the rack without touching the car. I wore it with my daughter and the towel saved the car from certain scratches that would have happened…

ideal for roof racks

I have a Rav4 and needed a strong, secure roof rack for my kayak that would easily fit my kayak and fit my tight budget. It meets all requirements. It comes with two strong straps and drawstrings, but I only use straps. Once you buckle it up and make sure the saddles have a rubber grip, your kayak isn't going anywhere. In fact, the bigger challenge for me is getting the kayak off the saddle once I get to my destination. I found it easier to just unbuckle the saddles on one side of the car and…

  • Decent performance

I got this luggage rack after using THULE Hull a Port for 5 years. Taking the kayak and climbing onto the radiator to get to the hull was a bit of a struggle, and after one day pulling my back, pushing and straining to get to the trunk on my Xterra I thought that this build might be the best option for me if I'm just carrying a kayak since I can lift it from the back and use the SUV's roof as a lever. It works pretty well but I wasn't expecting that both rack kits have rubber that keeps the…
