Motorcycle Navigation: TomTom Rider with TomTom Car Mount Review

I received the GPS for my TomTom Rider bike for free as a review copy, but I don't own the bike. So my husband found this online and I ordered it. It works very well, except for one thing: while I had a TomTom plugged in that was sitting on my counter and charging, it kept bouncing off the counter. And yes, I know how to make it stick. Bought used, other reviews are correct, cannot connect to a base and expect it to work, needs to be connected to a device. Since I bought a TomTom for my motorcycle, I only need something for my car. It fit the bill and the price was right.

Good fit and finish but performance doesn't reach Tom Tom Rider 400 gps. I've noticed that power is reaching two pins on the mount, but they don't appear to be making contact with the corresponding pins on the GPS. The GPS works fine on my motorcycle mount so it's not a problem. At the moment the car mount is practically unusable.

My Rider 400 charges on my motorcycle mount but not on this car mount. After reading the reviews I compared the voltages and found the same reverse polarity problem on the car mount pins. I opened up the device, swapped the solder connections on the back of the contacts, and now the device is charging. I can't believe Tom Tom is releasing units like this. Not happy I had to do that to get it working.

I reported this because the dock itself has a micro USB connector that is not working. I need to connect directly to the device. Since this is the only mount on the market (that I've found) that can be used with the TT Rider 400, I didn't expect any problems. be from the original supplier etc. Otherwise, it is easy to attach to the windshield, but difficult to change the tilt position.
