Topeak MTX Quick Release Beamrack (Type E) perfect for Brompton folding bike

I have a front carry basket but need extra capacity for the occasional shopping spree. Topeak MTX Beamrack Type E is perfect for Brompton. Since it has a quick release, I only mount it when I need it. The BeamRack comes with four well-engineered rubber pads that protect the seatpost while providing a snug, secure, non-slip fit.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

The perfect frame! for baskets and roof racks

perfect fit Thank you Topeak for this rack. I converted my road bike into a fitness bike and this carrier fits my light maintenance needs perfectly, be it some groceries or a yoga mat, beach towels etc. It is very easy to install. I used thinner spacers for my seatpost size. It is light and of course it fits any Topeak bag. The fastening cable can be easily removed and used to secure objects. See photos of my bike with pannier rack mounted.

However very functional.

Have them on my bike and my kids bikes. I love the versatility and the light weight. But the guide in the tray is plastic and not rigid enough to hold the wire basket, which is quite wide and slides out of the guide too easily. For security reasons, I replaced the center lock with a security torx (M6 x 30mm on thin seatposts and M6 x 25mm on thinner seatposts; 1mm pitch) after it was stolen from my son's locked bike (death to all thieves!).

  • Everything is fine!

Good quality product, easy to install.

Excellent quality, easy installation, great design and height options (for different wheel sizes, tire and fender clearances, seat height, etc.). What it is is simple, neat and solid, I just wish there was a stronger clamp for the posts (as an option with two socket head screws instead of a quick clamp) and some spacers on each side to increase rigidity. Carrying capacity and helps keep the rack in place (so it doesn't swing left or right as easily). If these two items were offered (at least as

Very durable for my stiff cock

I bought this for long (30+ miles) bike rides that may include picnics and ocean swims and rock climbing. water and equipment. Or I can do nothing and go to the store with a half-empty bag. Anyway, this rack keeps my loaded MTX bag safe where I forgot it was there. The only noticeable difference is in the handling of the bike: the more weight at the back, the easier it is for the front wheel to lift off. This rack and a loaded MTX Trunk Bag EX add about 6 pounds to my ride. It's attached to myโ€ฆ

Mostly great except for a few things

I bought this for my road bike as it doesn't have post bolt mounting holes. Everything works fine except for a few things. 1. My feet rub against the clamp that attaches the post to the seat post. It's really annoying and I wish they could make the clip less wide. I have walking legs so they are pretty skinny - if you have super built hips I would find a way to put a screw in the rack. 2. This might be expected or picky, but I bought a DXP bag for this and it has a few millimeters of horizontal

Good Beam Rack for Baskets and Carriers

Excellent quality construction. Lightweight yet durable. I use it to carry a full DXP trunk (I don't unfold panniers). This solved the problem of not having a place to attach a rack to my road bike - no connection points. The great thing is that you can easily take it off for weekend trips. While not recommended, I use it on a carbon fiber seatpost with no problem. Be careful and get the right version. The choice between down, straight or upslope version depends on your bike size and setup. The

Ideal. Exactly what I needed.

I actually have a road bike with a larger frame and a bike stand. It worked, but I had two big problems. 1) I have big feet and with the side pockets open my heels hit the pockets when I stepped on them. 2) My bike rack (on my car) didn't close properly, the Explorer rack was in the way. I looked into this very carefully and decided to buy the E-Type instead of the V-Type simply for the extra height so I have enough free space when I have the MTX bag on the mount. Remember I have a road bikeโ€ฆ

Nicely built stand but could use a few small design changes.

Received the trunk yesterday and drove it 53 miles today. The trunk worked well: it didn't rotate on the seatpost and held the DX trunk bag perfectly. The Type E Beam Rack is the right size for a medium-sized Specialized frame; It should also work with similarly sized frames from other manufacturers. Mine goes all the way up to the seat post and there's plenty of room under the rear wheel stand. When I attached it to my bike last night and tested it, I found that when my left leg was in theโ€ฆ
