Not safe for older children

That 'barrier' at the top of the stairs is worse than nothing. I can't imagine how these "gates" can work to prevent a child from falling down the stairs and they create many opportunities for entanglement. The straps, even when fully tightened, slide easily up and down the railing, creating enough gaps to allow a child's head or limbs to be trapped. The buckles don't seem strong enough to withstand any pressure on the fabric let alone a child pinching it and as far as I can tell there is no…

Not recommended for small to medium sized pets

Not for small dogs - I installed the gate exactly as described. We have a small space outside in an apartment complex and my 17 pound Scottish Terrier immediately squeezed between the gaps where the buckles connect and ran out into the street. It doesn't seem to matter how tight we pull the straps - they still pop. It's a shame because I think the gate looks nice and it's just handy to raise it up if needed. This might work better with a pet that doesn't care about the gate. Maybe it would be…

Safe and beautiful, but takes time to open and close.

Having tried several other high quality children's gates, I was fed up with the small holes and external pressure that many put on the railings, causing them to protrude over time. I didn't want to drill into the oak railings so I had very few options. Initially I turned down this gate due to the price and lack of knowledge of the product. The gate is relatively easy. It takes a few minutes to use and install. The downside of the design is that it takes 2 hands and 10-15 seconds to properly…

serves its purpose not recommended if you need to open it frequently

Update: I don't know if my spam filter ate it but I've never heard from the company after contacting them to ask have the wrong barrier. However, the right barrier appeared today. Turns out they sent a bigger one the first time too. The replacement gate installed with a lot less trial and error, but it still took some fiddling to figure out the optimal placement for everything. I wish there was a little more strap on the female side of the buckle than right on the edge of the barrier. It would…
