secondary waste. Best in the Starter & Parts Category

This is the second starter motor I have installed on my 2000 Civic. The first was junk almost straight out of the box. This worked great for about 2 months until my wife was driving my car and left her stranded. When I checked it out, I tapped it a few times, after that it worked fine, but now it doesn't start about every third time I turn it off.

Still no return, poor presentation, didn't even work both times

I had to buy a new starter motor and took it to my mechanic who replaced it. It still won't start, he said it was defective and won't start. Sent back and bought a new one. The second time I received a defective part that didn't work. It turned up in a damaged old box that was barely locked. I have processed and sent another return but haven't received a refund yet! I am extremely disappointed

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Some minor issues

A few months after installation the solenoid started not turning on and eventually froze in the on position, started smoking before I could disconnect the battery. Then it didn't work at all leaving me stuck and having to buy an overpriced replacement and also blew a fuse which shut off all dash electronics. All in all was a very bad experience. I hope this is an isolated case and no one else will.

  • weight

Works perfectly! (Honda Civic LX 2004)

Via YouTube video Installed and working great for 2 months. I'll update it if it fails before the rest of my car (currently my 2004 Honda Civic LX has 164,000 miles). Update 12/20/2016: Still works great. Some information about my driving habits and my climate. I do a lot of short trips. I start my car about two dozen times a week. I live in Salt Lake City, where summer temperatures top 100 degrees for weeks and stay below freezing for months. The starter motor sounds like it's struggling a…

TYC 1-17741 Honda Civic Replacement Starter

This fits my 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe (Automatic) perfectly. It was packaged in a box with the clear statement "brand new inside out". Also included was a sheet of technical specifications and installation instructions. However, the kit did not include mounting screws. You only need to reuse 2 from your old starter. I'm no mechanic but I found it VERY easy to install after reading the instructions and watching a decent YouTube video. You will need a ratchet, a set of metric sockets, a broken…

Pros
  • Little Competition
Cons
  • Ugly Packaging
