Not for slower PC and slower USB

If you have a fast PC and a fast (USB 2.0) USB bus this should work for you. I recommend a powered USB hub for this modem as it requires a lot of power to keep the internal relays open and the phone line open. Some USB sticks only have access to 100mA, and this device requires the full 250mA allowed by the USB specification. It didn't help at all for me: I had to send mine back because it couldn't keep the connection open despite a good quality, powerful USB hub. When it connected once out of…

Disappointing after all the hype

This little modem was to become the crown jewel of dial-up modems. Among other things, it can work with the new v.92 standard. The connection required no pick or click, and the drivers had to be installed first. After that I got this thing working with my ISP to no avail. Couldn't get it to work on Windows XP

The first warning of the problem came when Windows XP warned me that the drivers for this modem were not signed. The next symptom of the problem was that the connection speed was almost always slower than what I got with my old Creative Labs V90 external serial modem. The last straw was that the drivers crashed after a period of using Windows XP. Maybe it's just my USB 2.0 card. Or maybe it's just the way my machine is set up.
