Another successful product from ugears

Ugears has done it again! Another fantastic product. My fingers didn't mind that this model didn't have toothpicks (I just finished a steam locomotive). Also the extra hammer will be great for future builds. All in all, it was a relatively easy setup. The only part that was a little tricky were the strings themselves, just because I have big hands and fingers so it took me a while to get to the neck to tie them. Total build time was about 3 hours or so.

Pros
  • robust construction
Cons
  • insecure

Since I picked this up with will, I have.

Since I took it voluntarily, I assembled it in just 24 hours. Although I broke a few wooden pinheads, I followed the instructions (written in hieroglyphs) to the letter to successfully craft the tool. Unfortunately, one of the last instructions seemed to indicate that I should cut the string before the knot, preventing me from getting it playable. There was no sound when trying to use a different line, and I can't find any information on what type of line I should use.

  • Certified
Cons

$70 not $1000! If your string broke, read my review

First, let's remember that this is a $70 version of a regular $1000 item. I'll start with the bad first, then the good. Minus: 1 string broke on the first day of play. 2 it doesn't say exactly what type of line to use (I changed it to a 50lb big game trilene, .028 diameter, almost 2x thicker) 3. explain that you're using no rosin at all don't want to lose tone it (dirty cheap stuff in music store) 5 spare strings don't come, you have to understand people break them and we pay 70 dollars, at…

Complaints answered:

I came up with this after reading all these reviews especially the bad ones which I will address. I assembled it in about 8 hours, it's time consuming but you have to take your time and be careful or you'll ruin everything. The wood is fairly strong, precision laser cut, and many of the pieces have extra detail in case you come across it, but don't. There is sandpaper to clean the edges, use it. There's wax to lubricate the pieces to make them fit together easier, use that. The hammer you make…

Works and looks great! But.

I made one for my sister about a year and a half ago. He ran well and played well. but when I came to visit her, I found that the chewing gum was drying out and breaking. YOU CANNOT replace them without breaking your neck! (strips below left) So I bought a second one and intentionally cut off the grommets attaching the neck to the body and instead drilled holes and used a 3" peg on each side to attach the neck to the body. NOW it can be repaired if necessary. These types of patterns should be…

Good model and fun toy to play with

I've been waiting for this barrel organ for months. I was very glad they did NOT have any of the infamous toothpicks in this design. Instead, it's held in place by lots of pins and well-placed parts. There's even a hammer for hammering parts into place. Other Ugears models weren't complex enough and only took me 30-60 minutes to assemble. This model was exactly what I was looking for. It took me about 6 hours of non-stop work. It requires great attention to detail and the ability to follow…

Fantastic looking model hurdy-gurdy

The mechanical hurdy-gurdy was the first UGears mechanical model I tried to build. As a model, I should have given it 5 stars. 10 stars if I could. Everything about this model is top notch. The quality of the wood, the laser cut, the instructions and the materials provided all help to make this model a truly fun and enjoyable experience to build. The instructions are very clear, although it's easy to miss something that could be very important, so it's important to be careful and take your time

  • New

  • I don't like anything about it, everything is fine

I started with a locomotive that has been my favorite model to build so far.

. Hello Ugears! I thought I'd take a few minutes to introduce myself and share my experience. Last Christmas I was looking for a Christmas present for my father who is 94 years old. Until he could. k to build the models i thought he would be grateful if he could look at them and see how they work. So I bought a mini tram model for Christmas as practice to see how difficult they are to build. I was very impressed with the detailed instructions. After the first mini-city I started assembling a…
