Bought this pump to create decorative bubbles in our 5 gallon tank. It comes complete and ready to use with the accessories shown. It's really quiet, especially when the flow control is set to minimum. I heard a similar Tetra Whisper at an aquarium store and Uniclife is quieter. Initially the air pump worked fine. It's nice that it was quieter than I expected and had strong and adjustable airflow. It did a good job for the small 10 gallon tank I use to quarantine new fish before adding them to the larger main tank - I just used the pump (no rock) to pump the small sponge filter to feed. Great product. I use a sponge filter in my African dwarf frog tank. They prefer calm water and are poor swimmers. This device allows me to reduce the amount of air pushed out of the sponge filter so the water isn't too crazy for the little boys. I'm also impressed by how quiet it is! Was hoping this would work on my men. If you buy it for bettas you will have to manipulate it A LOT to make the airflow slow enough that the fish don't blow all over the tank. I was able to get one of them to work in a 3 gallon tank but I had to disable it in my 5 gallon tank. Before anyone says I didn't set it up correctly, I use the same sponge filter, check valve and hose for both tanks. I put an extra sponge in both sponge filters to slow down the bubbles even more. This air pump is very quiet and relatively thin. What I like best is that it's mostly rectangular so it goes well with my aquariums. I have two small sponge filters in 2.5 liter aquariums on a small bookshelf. Also, this is the first small air pump I've discovered that doesn't slowly vibrate into the nearest object.
