My copy of this ball head was lubricated with clear adhesive gel, not grease. The Pan action almost froze, rendering the feature unusable. The ball is textured, not smooth, so it doesn't spin smoothly. After using it for a couple of weeks I finally took WD40 and sprayed it on my head. The quality of the ball head is good but not perfect. I saw someone complain about the sloppy paintwork and finishing touches. I would agree with this statement. My ball head has very small dents in several places. But you can only see that if you look closely. The ball head holds my phone with no problems. It fits my Canon Mark II with a 24-70mm lens. For the price if you don't want a solid ball head that will hold a heavy camera mount at any angle this is a good ball head, fairly smooth in operation and shines to be pretty well done. It's not fair to compare this to my $300+ Really Right Stuff BH-40 head, but I'd say it lacks the buttery smoothness and precision of an RRS head.
