Very easy install. Used a drill switched to LOW SPEED. Variable trigger works best. Locate a flat area away from curves in the plastic. Up and back as far as you can from the spout. Use VERY LIGHT PRESSURE on the drill point and VERY SLOW speed ! I did not have to empty the gas can. Just empty out a few gallons if yours is full. All 4 of my cans were full. These worked great for my needs. I did have to install slightly off center because my plastic can has a "weld" seam right down the middle.the cap would have been crooked and leak if I had installed it there. Installing slightly to the side in no way affects function and works just fine.
