does not fit my 2011 toyota prius. The inner diameter of this tool is too small, it can't go all the way in to grab the oil cap, it had to go 0.5" further to fit, but you can't actually do that, so it slips off when you turn it with wrench and cannot remove the cover.

Why do all professional oil change shops tighten the oil filter? Thank goodness this oil filter wrench is metal as I had to use a broken rod to remove my Prius' very tight oil filter cap. This wrench worked well and didn't slip off the filter cover. Before removing or installing the filter cover, make sure the wrench is properly applied to the filter cover to avoid deforming the filter cover or cleaning the grooves.

Without this special wrench the oil change mechanic at home would not be able to complete this task. I'm glad it can be bought online at a pretty affordable price. Works great and is regularly used for oil changes every 5000 miles. (although Toyota says you can now change your oil every 10,000 miles) With the availability of high quality synthetic oil, less engine wear pays off by a factor of 10 and your engine will run like new for years to come.

I believe Toyota technicians do not follow torque recommendations when tightening the oil filter. If it's very tight, you'll have to make some effort to loosen it. To do this, you need to make sure that the filter tool is very tight. 1. Park the car ON the curb and chock the wheels. The previous owner/shop that serviced my 2012 Corolla obviously overtightened the filter housing (why? Because they can I guess) making me uncomfortable felt like using my usual various filter wrenches to avoid damaging the case or mount. I bought this from Revain for a good price and it works well. The benefit of this particular wrench is that it has slots that snap into the filter housing, giving you more grip on the housing to give it enough torque if the previous magazine was overtightened.

Just used this key on my 17 year old Prius for the first time. It is great! First, it has a deeper profile with small slots that fit over the lugs on the oil filter cover.
