I bought this because I didn't need a general purpose printer and only needed to scan occasionally. The compact form factor was attractive. After 2 years the thing is a brick. During that time I scanned things at scale maybe 5 times, maybe 50 scans. Now the scanner registers that I plug in the cable, but no longer responds on the computer I originally installed it on, no less. It doesn't respond to key presses and is completely dead. Works very well with the Twain scanner utility. Very fast and quiet for this type of scanner. The double sided single pass scanner part works very well. All software appears to be Windows only. I didn't downvote that part because no one really seems to have Mac software. HP includes software, but it's made by a competitor, and that seems to be the reason holding their scanners back. No surprises. Just take your time, hold it by the sides and slide the plastic sleeve through. You get clear, crisp downloads. Do not try to feed paper without the plastic cover. I like all the features of this new model. I've had 3 previous Visioneers in the past and they just keep getting better. It scans both sides, automatically detects the paper size, and automatically turns the pages over so the text is right side up. All the handy features I use often. The scanner itself is fine. It has good image quality, is fairly fast, quiet, compact and beautiful. But after two years, I can only feed paper properly 75% of the time. The rest of the time it goes wrong and the sides of the paper are not scanned. The software is a disaster. where to start I guess we'll start with a reboot because every time you want to use the scanner you have to plug it in, put the paper in, take out the paper, unplug the scanner, plug it back in, then you're done.
