Weak, heated, the wires are too small. Take it harder

I installed this dimmer on a 3.75 amp bar with 30 LEDs, which is below the rated limit. "Full brightness" on the dimmer was actually dimmer than one step to the left. And then it burned down! I got a second one to try again but it was so hot the metal dial burned my fingers. Trust me, just get the more powerful one from Leisure Lectronics, especially if your current is close to the rated limit. You will also be able to use the correct gauge wire instead of thin floss wire.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Great product, confusing instructions, works great!

Installed the switch yesterday. The instructions are very confusing. Luckily, the first question in the questions section on the product page was how to connect the switch. The seller replied: 1 - Connect the + (positive) wire of the LED to the WHITE wire of the dimmer and to +12 volts. 2 - Connect the - (negative) wire of the LED to the RED wire of the dimmer. 3 - Connect the BLACK wire from the dimmer to ground. I connected exactly as described and the switch worked GREAT. I highly recommend…

Light no longer glares

Follow the directions and the dimmers work well. Since the primary dimmer design is used on the weak side of the circuit and my install location was on the high power side of the LED, there seemed to be a limit to the lowest dimming level achieved. Also, I don't think it will reach the max brightness that will dim the lights before the dimmer is installed since the dimmer module ground wire is not directly connected to ground on the high side of the circuitry. It would be nice if the…

Finally a 12V DC dimmer in series!

I wanted a dimmer for the LED panel under the canopy of my van. Unfortunately I couldn't find the + and - wires to the lightstrip which meant any other dimmers I could find wouldn't work as they require a + and - input and then a + and - output. This dimmer can be connected anywhere in the line and on either side of the light source. I just replaced the on/off toggle switch with this dimmer and it works great. The light is only 97-98% bright at its brightest level, but it's bright enough. This…

PWM dimmer works well with my RV's LED lights, but needs to be wired to "Easy Connection" if the LED's negative lead is not available. However, when the knob is turned to maximum, the headlights will flash at high speed. I also use PWM LED dimmers from JR Products and American Technology. These dimmers work great and will not flicker the LEDs at any dimmer setting. Finally, I was able to talk to PCA's technical department about the flicker problem at maximum brightness. They said this dimmer is

It's not cheap, but this one did exactly what I wanted it to do.

I used this controller with SMD LED strips. I would say a strip of light uses between 12 and 24 watts. For a 12 volt circuit, this is 1 to 2 amps. This is well within the advertised 4.5 amp rating of this dimmer. It does exactly what I wanted. It has a slight detent (a slight click, like a radio volume control) that completely turns the device off. You then turn it clockwise after one click and the lights slowly get full bright. I felt that the dimming level was proportional to the dimmer's…

Works perfectly and just what I wanted

Used in a motorhome (30ft trailer) to dim LED lights mounted on an awning track. It was installed next to the existing power switch for the LED lights and mounted in a cabinet next to the panel. First let me say that this switch was so good that I bought it twice. I used it to dim the outdoor LED lights on my canopy rail and when it worked so well I bought a second one to install for the skylights in my RV. We were able to install this switch with the easy installation method by connecting the…
