I would give 4 1/2 stars because it doesn't have a remote control but I seriously couldn't figure out how it works with a desk. If there was a remote control it would be perfect. It's pretty quiet and does what it's supposed to. We have this in our basement bedroom. I keep it at 66 and it helps keep me from getting cold. I only use the low temperature setting, so I can't tell what a high fan setting or normal fan setting sounds like.

The best thing about this product is the remote control. Not that it was an exceptional console, quite simply. The heater itself worked, however after 10-20 hours of use the electrical plug was deformed and melted. This in turn melted the outlet it was plugged into, tripping the switch and shorting out the cord. Was 2 weeks in 2 rooms without light. Doesn't work at all. It is literally a "brick", connected or disconnected. This should never go through quality control and worries me about the attention to safety in Vornado. When their customer support team gets back after Thanksgiving (the day before and they're gone) I assume they'll fix it, but the question will be with what difficulty, speed, and professionalism. This is a nice heater which is why we bought it. The problem is that heat flow and air outlet are only 90 degrees apart, not front and back (look closely at the photos to see this). This means that in some seating areas, when the heater is oscillating, a warm airflow is quickly followed by a room-warm exhaust flow, which is of course cold – otherwise we wouldn't be using the heater! So far I have received a clearly used device - an open box that has been resealed. Scratches on the top of the device. Something is rattling inside too. As I lean, I hear it fall inward. I will probably return this heater for a different model or brand. I used it for less than an hour and had two problems. The main problem is that the thermostat shows that it is heating up. I have a studio so I just need to heat a large room. This is the only brand I buy when it comes to heaters and fans. Most places seem to advertise Lasko and Honeywell, most likely due to the lower price. I hate both brands. Bought to warm the bedroom at night and it serves its purpose perfectly. The size of the room is about 15x20 meters. It heats up instantly, but it's not a fiery explosion, more like the heat you'd expect from the vents of your standard home stove.
