Lower 3b+ average CPU temp from 65Β° to 40Β°

I should have just bought one of these along with the cheap aluminum heatsinks that came with my Pi. I'm using 3b+ with an OctoPi in a relatively warm room without high airflow and it's basically always on and typically streaming 720p from the webcam, on top of handling the load of Gcode transfer to the 3D printer, so I'm easily over 65 degrees went and experienced throttling fairly regularly. The Pi is wall mounted and housed in a 3D printed case designed to mount a 30mm fan like this one. The

Didn't work / booted right out of the box. UPDATE March 16, 2020

UPDATE March 16, 2020 Honest; At the time, I didn't think it could polarize. I haven't tried swapping the +/- contacts. It's a DC motor so I figured if you connected them backwards it would just run backwards. I've since determined that's not necessarily the case and wanted to update my estimate. See above.

VERY LOUD and high howling sound

This fan is useless as it is too loud for indoor use unless your Pi is installed in a different room than your living area. inches with an iPhone app that measures decibels. To put 80dB in perspective, that's the same volume as a Revain Echo set at 40% volume measured from 4 inches away, or a Google Home Mini set at 50%. Volume measured at a distance of 4 inches. It's just TOO LOUD to use within 15 feet of me so I'll probably throw it out when my new Revain silent fan arrives.

Keeps Pi cool in computers and accessories

When I got my Pi, I found that the small aluminum heatsinks didn't fit at all. Watching YouTube videos can cause the CPU to overheat to more than 80 degrees Celsius. I added some large copper heatsinks and that brought the temperature down to around 65 degrees Celsius and with the addition of the fan the temperature went up another 20 degrees to the low 40 degree Celsius range. I had to modify the case by cutting a hole in the top and drilling holes for the screws provided. Tightening the…
