Great sound for the price.

I was hesitant to discuss more expensive speakers for a while when we remodeled the kitchen and added a small addition. I ended up buying these 8 inch and a few 6 inch versions. A year later I'm glad I didn't spend 2x or 3x what they did on something 'better', they are great for the money. 24 inches. They're connected to Sonos Connect and are powered by an Adcom GFA5002 50w/side that I bought from CL for $25 and paired with a very compact Cambridge Audio Minx subwoofer. You sound very goodโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Everything is fine!

Why buy anything else?

I bought these for our new house which we brought forward for speakers in several rooms. Installation is easy as other reviewers say. The clip system for holding the speaker cords made it easy to connect to the speakers. I used caution when tightening the tabs that hold the speaker in place as I've read other brands break easily. There are no issues here, and the speaker repair went better than expected. I'm trying to finish and it usually takes longer than most DIYers, but I surprised my wifeโ€ฆ

Excellent speakers, survived the first winter!

I am writing this review about 10 months after installing it on the ceiling of my entrance. These speakers sound fantastic and have withstood one of the harshest Pennsylvania winters in recent memory! I turned them back on a few days ago and they sound just as good as when they were installed last spring. I have worked professionally with music and sound and the detail you get from them is top notch. They easily compare to cheaper studio monitors used for critical listening, which is surprising

Pros
  • understandable even for the old ones
Cons
  • some little things

Very good value for these speakers

I usually save 5 stars for top quality amazing products. These Yamaha ceiling speakers work very well and sound very good. Our builder installed them for us so I can't speak for installments. I would say it is very good value for money. We bought 7 speakers in pairs of 2. We have one left. 5 are on the ceiling of our family room for surround sound. The remaining 2 are in the master. We mainly wanted them for music around the house and bedrooms. We love music and it's always on. However, theseโ€ฆ

Excellent sound quality

I bought two pairs of these surround headphones for my living room. I have my own home cinema, but of course we use the living room the most. When the house was built, the speaker wires were already in the ceilings, not the walls. The holes were about 20 inches from the wall. Not wanting to run cables to the walls or mount the speakers on the ceiling, I went the in-ceiling route. I was able to snag them on sale for $99 a pair. If you can wait, wait for the price to drop, which is commonโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Some small things

The builders were laying the wires for the top two cables in our media room so I installed two of them first. I then upgraded to an Atmos 7.2.4 install, so I bought and installed four more, leaving the original pair in place. I did this to "seal up for the future" and because I was itching to take out the two originals and patch up the resulting holes in the ceiling ;-) I've found they work best when placed over drywall (not a problem for me as the space above the media room is the attic). Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly dented

Better than Polk at a comparable price

I compared them to Polk. The difference in build quality is obvious. They also have less visual impact, as they have a full-coverage smart magnetic grid (Polk has a plastic surround around the edge that's more visible). Yamaha covered the electronics, too, so you don't have to worry about exposure to insulating dust (Polk's electronics are exposed). Yamaha uses gold-plated high-tension spring connections (Polk uses cheap tin-plated pressure inserts). The sound of these Yamahas is clear andโ€ฆ
