Carburetor Bolt Crash Fixed (don't ask). I reamed out the damaged hole with a 3/8 bit, then used a 7/16-14 tap and it threaded well. Was able to save my new take and avoid a big problem!
Pros
Easy to use solution to repair damaged threads in metal
Unlike other more expensive inserts like Time-sert, they do not require special tools, greatly increasing the price of repair inserts. I've been using them for many years. I don't trust the red locking compound on the threads. I take it off and use my own red LocTite. You can get them with thin walls or regular ones.
This little device saved me. I tore off the spigot from the cylinder head bolt. After drilling it out it turned out to be too big for a standard screw. You simply drill the right size hole for the insert, cut the hole and screw in the insert. You can use a flathead screwdriver, although I chose to purchase a dedicated insertion tool. The head is tight with no slip and my tractor runs great. The red thing in the thread is the thread blocker. It holds the insert firmly in place.
Pros
Installation with standard drill and tap; No special tools required
