Wrong tolerances make it useless

Very dissatisfied with the purchase. First came a short of the six screws needed to connect the top and bottom pieces. Second, when I tried to install the screws, the extruded plastic covered one of the screw holes. Even after I unboxed it, the incorrect extrusion caused so much friction that the two pieces couldn't slide freely over either bar. I'm wondering if this company buys seconds from Microjig because it was a mess and a waste of time and Microjig usually make quality products. From now

Some skill required

Mounting at an angle is extremely easy. You're in business in 90 seconds. Building a sled takes a lot more time, but it's not impossible if you take your time and have basic woodworking skills. The included instructions will give you basic sled drawings, but if you let your imagination run wild the possibilities are endless. A drill press and the necessary Forstner attachments are almost a must to assemble the slide, which I didn't anticipate when I bought it. Another reason to buy more tools…

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes

Great design, easy assembly

I could make the rails for my sled myself (and have yet to try them on my next sled) but they were inexpensive and I love how they can be customized Device is extremely square, clean and makes your cuts very precise and reproducible. The assembly instructions are quite good and clear. Preparing the rails themselves wasn't difficult, but making the cross slide was a little more difficult. I hand measured the 4" center holes and drilled a 1/4" through hole and then a 1/2" hole for the mounting…

Well thought out product, makes my factory fixtures accurate

I make quite a lot of picture frames so I built the slide at a 45 degree angle to speed up the process and improve accuracy. I built a sled with hardwood skids to keep seasonal movement to a minimum. For the most part the slide worked fine, but I've recently tried wide board frames (mercilessly) and couldn't close the mitres properly. I checked the alignment of the saw blade with the miter slot and checked the alignment of the guide carriage with the saw blade using 45 triangles. Everything…

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Frequency

I really wanted to love her. As a Shopsmith owner, my choices are a bit limited. Unfortunately, a great idea and a great design fall apart due to poor design and quality control. Even though they say they are made specifically for Shopsmith, stop blocks will never work. I think I can save myself the bevels if I try hard enough. Note. In the photos they are fresh out of the box - never installed or used. Problem #1: MICROJIG didn't leave enough plastic between the tapered portion of the rod and…
