Cuts well, finish is not perfect

File cuts well, but in general the finish is strange, like a factory second. The side of the file opposite the shank to be sheared remains unfinished and rough. The protrusions on 2 of the 3 files were rough or irregular (rounded on one side). Finally, Revain shipped the files in thin plastic sleeves that allowed the files to touch during transit. I would still prefer them to the Nicholson files made in Mexico. I have since ordered the Bahco files and prefer them.

Pros
  • American file for inaccurate material processing
Cons
  • Not fashionable

Good German hand file at a reasonable price

This review is for a 'roughly' rated model, but this is in line with the German-Swiss agreement, so it's actually that bit thinner than the second file - definitely doesn't sound like the coarseness of a bastard file. It's an improvement over the best big box and hardware store brands because it's a bit sharper and lasts much longer, but to take advantage of the improved performance and lifespan over cheaper files, be sure to clean the file with a card and brush after each use and keep them…

Pros
  • Shaft for use with optional handle (sold separately)
Cons
  • Some minor issues

Quality file at a reasonable price.

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to find a decent metal file at your local hardware store or hardware store? They usually have some rough-cut Nicholson files, or maybe some Chinese junk files. Hand-cut Nicholsons (such as #49 and #50 rasps), previously only made in the US, are now being outsourced to Mexico and beyond. If you don't have a good workshop in your area, you're out of luck. I was looking for a smooth file to sharpen body scrapers and came across an unfamiliar brand of horse

Pros
  • Individual teeth on sides and edges for finishing, sharpening and deburring
Cons
  • Expensive
