Does not downmix multi-channel audio to stereo

Product is solidly built and seems to do what it's supposed to. But, and it's great, it only accepts PCM 2.0 digital input. With digital television (Dolby AC-3), video streaming (Dolby Digital plus), etc., this is quite difficult. An old TV like mine does have an optical output but doesn't have the ability to control the output for 5.1 AC downmixing 3 output to PCM 2.0. This is only really useful for stereo digital music on a Windows PC. While USB audio worked to some extent with Linux, it's…

Thickness is a rating category?

I really like this little headphone amp/simple preamp/DAC. I only use the optical input on it and only as a headphone amp for my TV. It sounds really clean from low to high levels, and the tone controls are really and competently effective. They rotate smoothly and produce no noise artifacts at all when adjusted. There is a point deduction for the inclined volume control. Otherwise it works perfectly fine. I use Grado SR125 headphones with this little amp and there is no problem with volume. I…

Works and sounds great.

A few years ago I bought a FiiO A1 portable headphone amp for my work laptop. At the time, it was the best option in a limited line of sub-$100 headphone amps. After getting a new working MacBook and a CalDigit dock with optical output, I went shopping again and found a few - the AIYIMA DAC-A2 proved to be the most economical. It's pretty simple - a couple of digital inputs and a couple of analog outputs. The key is the tone controls, which ensure my budget Sennheiser HD-201s sound the way they

works as advertised! Excellent

There are 3 cables in the box, not 2. I have tested the device via USB and S/PDIF and it works fine. The knobs are very good and the tone controls match my headphones. I paid more for this DAC than my headphones and I'm glad I did. There is no difference in sound. If your original sound, high and low sounds have the same volume, and the volume of the sound does not change with the tempo, then this device will not help. However, if your old sound card drives your headphones the way a clock radio

The box is a bit odd, but the product works surprisingly well.

I personally like my games and videos to sound their best and this product makes that possible. If you plug non-amplified headphones into a regular headphone jack, the sound will be different. I bought a pair of Samson SR850 open back headphones and while they sound good, using this amp makes the playing steps clearer and the music more precise, so even someone who doesn't care about good sound will notice how amazing these are amplifier sounds. I have edifier speakers on my desk which are also

Details and dynamics are incredibly valuable

First of all, I have to say that this Aiyima DAC-A2 headphone amplifier has the same sound as a device that is five to ten times more expensive! It produces detailed, dynamic and very tight, powerful bass. Here's the setup for my first listening test: the Grado RS2e reference series headphones. Apple iPhone 5V power supply as a power supply. Notebook MacBook Air. A 2008 recording of Berlioz's Fantastic Symphony performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Dudamel. There are

It looks like a factory clone of Fosi Audio Q4

The packaging is exactly the same, the components are exactly the same. The DAC looks exactly the same except for the branding. But the DAC has a metal ring that you plug your headphones into, compared to the black one on Fosi. I suspect the internal components are of variable quality so maybe they can undercut any components that Fosi refuses for their DACs. I didn't open it, but I tested them against each other and immediately found that AIYIMA is slightly quieter than Fosi on all the same…
