Terrible experience

I'm not sure if I received a defective product but I've only sharpened 3 of my chisels and these stones are already useless. I smoothed the backs of the three chisels with a rough cutter and beveled them to 25 degrees before moving on to the red and green stones to set the bevel to 30 degrees. When I got the rough stone to the fourth chisel, absolutely nothing happened. The back did not flatten out and the stone seemed perfectly smooth. There are light scratches on the back but the materialโ€ฆ

Great product, the best in power and hand tools

I agonized over which sharpening system to buy for my chisels, planes and knives and ended up pulling the trigger on this set; I am very happy with my purchase. Sharpening these "stones" is very easy and I found the blue (coarse) stone to be my favorite because it allowed me to quickly reuse the blades. A green (fine) stone will make your tools sharp, but you'll need a polishing paste and snare to bring your blades to a brilliant shine. There are two things I don't like about these diamondโ€ฆ

Doesn't last long with heavy sharpening/shaping

The surface is fairly flat. Other reviews point out that the stones are a few millimeters smaller than the slots they sit in and therefore the box cannot be used for actual sharpening. I don't think it's a problem, I put a small amount of putty on the top of each and now they're set like a rock. A folded piece of paper tucked in there would probably work in a pinch. the duration for which they will last. I started using them to reshape a knife with a broken tip, by the end the roughest stoneโ€ฆ

Decent Value: Power & Hand Tools

I think they make a decent sharpening starter kit. I appreciate that DMT made an affordable set of diamond whetstones. I think there are several things that allow them to do this. 1) Diamond coated stone design only on the part of the stone and circles that need to capture chips/chips. 2) the cheap plastic backing that the stones are made of. However, I still find this set to be good value and probably something the average carpenter won't wear out, especially any time soon. My biggestโ€ฆ

Best grinding tool I've ever used

08/24/2017 This set works very well. I've used this on very dull cheap knives and the results are excellent. I've also used this on my chisels and planer knives with great results. I don't even need a honing guide as I only need less than 50 passes (on all 3 grits) so I don't have to hold the angle for long. I've only used it for less than a week, so I can't comment on long-term use (which I believe the display lasted a long time). A beautiful wooden box is mentioned in the product description.

Good for edging but not smoothing

Stones are perfectly straight, in most cases they have no sharp bumps or defects. The "stones" consist of a hard plastic body with a thin metal plate on top that holds the diamond particles. Feels solid and/but (depending on what you are looking for) light. The box is very beautiful. Comes with anti-slip rubber pads. It's very useful for holding the bricks, but not that handy when used in a box as the CNC isn't smooth under the bricks and they wobble in all directions (a brick holder would beโ€ฆ

The superfine stone was defective

I bought this item based on many positive reviews, but unfortunately the item received was only partially usable. Large and small rocks worked well and cut very quickly, but there were problems with very small rocks. It did not have a flat surface like the other two stones. Machining or stamping marks were still visible on the metal in a few places, and there was a slightly raised protrusion on the metal around each of the small holes where the plastic base was visible. Great Value Dinner Starter Kit

Great! I have used Japanese waterstones in my chisels and planes for many years. My kit ranges from 320 grit to 8000 grit and allows me to achieve a full mirror finish. So why am I considering diamond stones? Well, all plates (cups) with water stones are used and are soft enough to be easily hollowed out. They also cut grooves easily, meaning if you rechamfer the 1/4" drill and move on to the next wider one in the same area, you may notice a lack of cutting edge in the drill's bevel. Obviouslyโ€ฆ
