🕵️ Elitech IR-200 HVAC Refrigerant Leak Detector - Advanced Halogen Leakage Tester, AC Sniffer with Infrared & Heated Diode Technology Review

I have had this device for a few weeks and have used it about 5 times. I also did a side-by-side comparison with my Derek device. There is no comparison! Elitech is probably the best leak detector I have used in my 40+ years in the business. I have already recommended it to a friend and he bought it. I would like more time to review the product but so far this one works great and is worth every penny for its reasonable price.

This is a good product, durable and well made. Any leak detector requires some skill - you need to know how to do it - so experiment with it if you've never used one. I like that it has two modes as one is more sensitive to let you know you are in a common leak area and the other helps locate it. Now, nothing beats blisters appearing once you've checked them out by spraying a soapy solution on the affected part, but I like having a tool that lets me know I'm in the area.

The manual says to use the Hot Diode function to calibrate the unit according to the environment and when I do that the display shows a maximum of 999. Me switched back to IR mode and if I found a leak that caused the reading to go up half the scale, for example through the service port, when I returned to the same port that had turned off the detector I found nothing . I don't have any leaks to test this thing in action at the moment so let's talk about the possibilities. The combination of an IR and a heated diode in one device is great and should make this tool usable for years to come. A high setting of 4g/year should be great for finding those pesky "once in the summer" service calls that turn out to be a poor shredder. It includes 5 extra tip filters and a spare probe.
