What happened to the first model

I make a living from reforestation and the first model of these pruning shears is still working after over 5 years! I've sharpened them hundreds of times and never had a problem with them. They cut branches like butter! I still use them today and they are my favorite pair of scissors. When I needed another pair for my co-worker, I had to order an upgraded model (this model). They're heavy, the screws are loose, the racquet won't hold. PLEASE do the old model again! Why are really great tools…

Pros
  • Quality build
Cons
  • Doubt

I had to use it because the handles had to be opened too far to get a cut. My other pruners only needed to be partially extended to get a full cut. Very uncomfortable. I really don't like the design. My other pruners don't need to be opened fully to get a 2 inch cut. You can't chop down trees, extending the handles all the way does everything and everyone in the way. Not ergonomic at all. I would send them back but I've tried them so I know they're uncomfortable. The hook blade is also a…

  • This is amazing

Makes gardening a little easier!

I've had other pruning shears that didn't hold their sharp edges well, ended up with bent/broken handles and only lasted a few years. I discovered the smaller Fiskars Loppers a few years ago and they work surprisingly well, even after all the abuse I've put them through. This year I decided to upgrade to this heavier 32" size to cut larger branches and they didn't disappoint! The gears offer extra flexibility to handle large branches in tight spaces and cut smoothly and efficiently in one…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • No instructions

Gears improve cutting performance, but they come with a major disadvantage. The disadvantage is that you have to open the handles very wide! That makes it harder to get into a tight branch, not to mention how much slower it is than standard loppers. If you don't have the strength to make incisions then this might be a better alternative. However, if you are of average strength or even slightly below average strength and buy them just because you think they are the best version of a standard…

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Difficult to say

Yes, they're good at cutting but, and that's a big but.

These 32 inch Fiskars PowerGear2 pruning shears are great for chopping branches that you have already cut and is probably great if you already have nicely manicured trees, shrubs, hedges etc. Your branches MUST be very easily accessible - within an arm's length of a normal person and along the perimeter of hedges, bushes, trees etc. the area between you and the branches you wish to cut, then you don't mind how far You'll have to open the handles - nearly the full 64-inch width, or you'll have…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Clarity

It is geared, has no ratchet and is awkward to use

Traditional pruning shears have long handles and very short blades on opposite sides of the axis. This is a form of leverage where a small force on the long end exerts a much greater force on the short blade, the end in this case. So you can put say 20 pounds of force on the handles and it will put say 200 pounds of force on the branch you are cutting. This thing has a gear in the swivel mechanism. Much like downshifting in your truck, the power the engine (your hands) is producing now creates…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Some minor issues

Crash in harsh conditions! Easy job mmm

Now I know how my dad felt when I did this to him because my boys lost my pruning shears. They shouldn't even be playing with the dangerous, deadly critters, but as I went to clear a fallen tree from the fence, "Where the hell's my spy scissors!?" For 11 years these old Fiskars have been grinding all threw, never served, insults heaped on insults and not a single complaint. And then they were gone. After a month of searching, I consoled myself with the thought that I could buy an even better…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Crumpled

Beast mode - only in certain situations

1. If you need to cut down a tree where you have full access to the branches, this is the right tool. The gearing gives you a little more power for chopping big branches provided (and I can't stress this enough) YOU HAVE FULL, UNLIMITED ACCESS TO THE AREA YOU WANT TO MAKE. RES.2. If you have branches on the ground this is a great tool. I don't have a lot of arm muscles, so I devised a method to compensate. First, I open the handles fully and firmly grasp a branch lying on the lawn. Holding the…

Pros
  • The delivery was very fast
Cons
  • I have no particular complaints about it, everything is fine
