🔍 Mann-Filter HU816X Metal-Free Oil Filter Review

This filter is of good quality but may be old. When I went to install it on my '07 E83 (N52) X3, part of the ring at the bottom was actually torn and opened up. It didn't completely destroy the filter but it means I'll change it sooner as I don't trust the integrity of the filter in the long run. Shame as the filter seemed very durable in all other respects. I bought 2 and if the next one I install does the same I will update this review.

I used this filter on a 2014 BMW X3 28iX. I "think" the engine code for this SUV is N20. The filter fits well and I think it does a good job. Why? Because when I removed the previous Mann filter, it was pretty dirty. I always use either Mobil 1 or Castrol full synthetic oil. I used Royal Purple once. But this material is not cheap. All-plastics are said to be able to travel 10,000 miles or more. But I change mine to around 8 or 9K.

This is a German made OEM filter fitted by BMW, this specific filter is for this year's X-Drive models. The HU 816 X kit comes with a spare washer for models with a metal screw drain plug. The Z-Kit version comes with a plastic drain plug used on 2WD models. That's the question I wanted answered. . I bought both sets to find out. I hope this helps someone and saves you some money.

This is the filter you need for your N55 engine. My filter was marked "Made in Mexico" (*see update below*) but who cares if it meets BMW standards? Both o-rings were supplied, as well as a copper washer for the oil pan drain plug which you will need to replace at every oil change. complete oil and filter changes for less than $50. If you have an E9X Series BMW I'm not sure what or why you would ever consider buying anything else. This is by far the most complete and also the most reliable filter I have ever bought.
