Purchased for Ford 289. Uses centering tool to push back crank for removal but does not round anvil. In any case, the diameter of the centering tool was too small to be pressed against the crank head without damaging the crank threads. So I made an adapter out of a threaded rod and a nut to pull it off. I drilled a shallow hole in the adapter to install a centering tool. The balancer released easily and smoothly with the tool without worrying about crank rotation. Haven't installed it yet butโ€ฆ

Terrible quality and terrible guarantee.

The tool broke the first time it was used on a 2006 Chevy Malibu. The puller's body, a solid piece of internally threaded metal, broke in two. LAUGH OUT LOUD. What materials do they use to make this tool. The top of the bearing is also cracked. The first time it took over a month to replace a part. The second time they asked me to return the broken part to them even though I emailed them the pictures. Since I bought the tool, I can no longer use it. The warranty is worthless if the tool keepsโ€ฆ

A reliable tool that needs a small gap in front of the balancer to work.

Product looks good but I couldn't use it. Initially, I pulled the balancer with a simple three-jaw puller I had. Once I decided to install it I would have done it right and bought this kit instead of putting on the parking brake, putting in the manual transmission and tensioning the chain. I had a sharing problem. The "puller" bolt is quite long, 5-6 inches, so you need that much front clearance or you won't be able to get a straight shot. That was on a '97 Dodge Viper, but I have to imagine aโ€ฆ

Have needed this tool for many years

I have various steering wheel and balancer pullers but sometimes have trouble installing the balancer. I've never liked hammer action, but unless you have a long bolt with the right thread, I've sometimes had to hammer on the balancer a short distance from the crankshaft until the bolt hits the threads. Of course, I always protected the balancer with 2x4s, but even so, I became a terrible hammer mechanic. Chevy engines were the ones I had to do most of the time, but it was only a short distance

  • Excellent overall performance

  • Out of fashion

The main part is very poorly made

I was so happy when I received this set of pullers! It was an OTC set and I was willing to pay extra for the brand name. Received it quickly, saw it was shipped by Bosch Automotive so was itching to open the box! Opening the very nice case, I immediately saw where the milled slots in the main part (the puller itself) looked solid. chaotic. The ends of some of the slots appear to have been slightly milled in relation to the slots, and whatever tool was used for machining was of a very roughโ€ฆ

Perfect tool for a very tight Mercruiser balancer

I purchased this tool after a powerful 3 jaw slide hammer failed to move a very tight balancer on my Mercruiser 350. I figured rust was to blame since it's so obvious on this engine. I was looking for a puller with a strong (i.e. not simple cast iron) plate and a thick, fine-pitch lead screw. This block also features a good thrust bearing for even less friction under load. The parts supplied fit a fairly generic Mercruiser/GMC perfectly, although I used my own three bolts to attach the ribโ€ฆ

Great OTC kit, covers most domestic and asian models except Chrysler

I have used many different balance pullers and most of them are pretty much the same, they all have the same faults. In fact, they all basically work in the same way. This one isn't much different. The puller flange has a slightly different shape, but in the end it works like any other. It works on most brands I've used: Chevy, Ford, Toyota. On some Chevys I have to use a long bolt to allow the balancer to wrap around the crank a bit during installation before the OTC installer engages theโ€ฆ
