Find a less invasive solution. This solution works, but you may need a lot of screws to stop the squeaking, meaning a lot of hardwood floor patching and stain picking up. It took me so many screws to stop the creaking that it ruined my hardwood floor. You have to find the center of the squeak and then aim at it to stop the noise. They fit me perfectly. I've never had failures. I have solid oak boards about 3/4" thick. I don't think they work well with thinner floors. I drilled 3/32 holes. I use a variable speed drill bit. I drill at a constant slow speed, until the head touches the guide. Then I quickly switch to high speed by quickly pulling the trigger.
