Linux ready

I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. I took it out of a small purse, plugged it into a USB port, and used my password to log into recent installations of Peppermint OS, MX Linux, and Solus. It certainly wasn't the fastest device in the world, and I was 15 feet from my router in the same room with no obstructions, but no driver installation was required. If the use case was HD video or AAA gaming I'd look elsewhere or use Ethernet, but for adding basic wireless capabilities…

Pros
  • Transmission range: up to 100m indoors, 300m outdoors.
Cons
  • For pensioners

Not compatible with modern Linux or Raspberry Pi kernels.

There is no driver for this adapter on Linux. While this suggests it's Linux compatible and there is a driver from MediaTek, it's poorly written and doesn't work with current Linux kernels (3.10+). People have managed to get this to work by updating the driver, but even with the correct driver, the adapter crashed every time I loaded the firmware. If you are a masochist and still want to try, visit https://github.com/porjo/mt7601 or https://github.com/kuba-moo/mt7601u (for version 3.19 and…

Cheap way to break cables

All of these nano adapters behave pretty much the same in terms of performance and reception. As long as there aren't any major obstacles between the adapter and the wireless router, they work very well. (e.g. multiple walls or obstacles above/below) A great way to move your desktop PC to another room without running an Ethernet cable. I use dozens of these adapters every year to help customers connect wirelessly to their desktop PCs. Signal reception is not as good as internal WIFI cards with…

Works great - as expected

No complaints. worked better than expected. I have a segmented network and my tablet needs to be on the same network as MY PC to sync the app. It was an extremely cheap way to do it. Disconnect Cat 5 from PC and use Wi-Fi adapter. After my apps synced, I disabled Wi-Fi and reconnected Cat5. I will use this in other ways as well but for the price I wasn't half expecting it to work and it worked great. The internet streamed videos and downloaded files as fast as my fixed connection. Time will…

Fantastic for the money (Windows 10)

So for under $3 you not only get working WiFi, you get amazingly fast and stable too. First, I do NOT recommend this for mission critical machines. . I thought I could say the same about Wi-Fi in general. So when I say "surprisingly fast" it runs at the expected speed without any problems. This device has 150 Mbps, which means 75 outgoing and 75 outgoing. It keeps the file transfer speed constant between 8 and 9.3 Mbps, which is 85 to 100% of the rated speed. Fiction! I've attached a screenshot
