Serious lamp problem.

I bought this scanner from Best Buy and it has worked great for a couple of months. I don't really use it that often, but it's nice to have when I need it. The lamp died after a few months. Sending it back to Microtek (the only way to replace the lamp), they installed a new lamp and sent it back. Everything was fine again. Before. A few more months passed, and now the light went out again. If I send it back in for repair, I pay almost the same shipping cost as the scanner. NO purchase…

Poor scanning of negatives and very noisy

One of the reasons I bought this scanner (in fact one of the cheapest I could find) was that it had a built in function that allowed you to scan negatives . However, this turned out to be due to all sorts of "pitfalls" that required EXTENSIVE use of image editing software (like Adobe Photoshop) to achieve acceptable quality. Otherwise it's okay, but that was the most important thing. Advantage of this scanner for me, so that it did not quite meet my expectations. Also, I'm hearing the same…

Microtek Support Update

I would like to add to my review of this product after the terrible experience with Microtek support. My scanner lamp failed a few months after purchasing the scanner. I sent the scanner back to Microtek and they "repaired" it about a week later. It turned out that the scanner was not equipped with a locking mechanism and returned with missing teeth on the gears that moved the scanner assembly. They replaced it with another defective one that is not recognized via USB. They replaced it with a…

So very disappointed!

I bought my Microtek product less than a year ago. Actually it was 7 months ago. The product stopped scanning about 2 months ago. Since Microtek doesn't offer a consumer guarantee, I understandably stand by it. I do not recommend anyone to buy Microtek products. I will only buy Canon or HP. Now I am forced to buy another scanner soon. This is very frustrating. My experience, like others, was that the light stayed on. And I have a scan "rod" inside would not move and scanned objects. Now note…

So far so good for scanners and accessories

I've had mine for about 6 months now and I'm still having problems. I bought this for my wife to use at school and she was so excited when it arrived that she had it set up and running when I got home from work. If you knew my wife you would think that this is a small miracle because she is NOT tech savvy. This is my second scanner and by far the easiest and best. The USB connection is great and the front panel shortcut keys are amazing. This is the first scanner I've used that actually scans…

Good scanner but the lamp is always on?

The scanner was received a few days ago, connected with no problems. My Windows 2000, Dell computer found it immediately and I quickly started scanning. Aside from the expected Scan Assistant software, it comes bundled with several different third-party software packages for organizing/saving images, modifying images, and so on. It received good reviews in Consumer Reports, which was my main source of reviews before purchasing. As written in CR it has quite a large footprint. I am satisfied…

Great scanner (and perfect in its price range)

The ScanMaker 3700 is a fast scanner with near-perfect image quality. Basic utilities for one-button copying and emailing of documents are great, but the default one-button scanning settings often yield less than adequate results than logging into PhotoImpact and scanning the image yourself. The setup went smoothly. and automatically. The applications that come with it are comprehensive and I myself usually don't get past PhotoImpact and Caere PageKeeper (meaning I have everything I need)…

Pros
  • Flatbed and photo scanner

  • Ugly packaging
