Kohler Genuine 1039861 Flush Valve Review

Designed to break. The pins that attach the valve to the tank are plastic and very thin. If you apply some force with your hand, they will break. But it's the only valve that fits my toilet.

The way this mount works is a bit complicated due to the shape of the toilet bowl. Hubby was able to install it and it works. We had to wait a bit for the valve kit. At least we had another toilet to use while we waited!

After reading helpful reviews I soaked and lubricated the washer but it still didn't fit the hole. So I shaved the puck a little on the three tabs that helped me slide it under the tank. The good news is that once installed, it is very secure.

Use SIL-Glyde to lubricate the seal after it is installed on the valve. Both sides. This greatly improves your ability to both compress and rotate the valve in one movement. Take your time, be patient. Install the valve dry WITHOUT a gasket first to become familiar with the movements required for final installation.

These flush valve kits have three tabs that slide under the flush tank. With the new seal it is very, very, very tight. Twist too hard or push in the wrong direction and you'll break these tabs. Don't turn it enough and water will seep in through the seal and it will always leak, wasting water. But move slowly and carefully, and know the risks, and you'll be fine. Much luck.

I buy one of these flush valves about every 6 months. A designer is having a bad day or a drug problem. The small plastic feet do not withstand the load of the surface in the long run. I've replaced so many of them that I can do it blindfolded. Since Kohler doesn't offer a solution (metal replacement, new tank design, etc.), the ultimate answer is to replace the toilet. I'm currently researching the most indestructible brands I can find.

After reading some reviews I also bought the Sil-Glyde product and soaked the pad for about an hour. I first installed the valve without the flapper and gasket to get an idea of the exact fit. It took me about 15 minutes to install it at different angles but with a little patience it will fit. Using Sil-Glyde definitely helped him get into it. When installed, the seal was tight and didn't leak at all.

I don't know why this flush valve is so expensive. It's all plastic! A base with three protruding legs can also be problematic, as plastic breaks more easily than metal. I bought this valve to replace the original. The original broke in place of one of the protruding legs. Anything that needs to be "screwed" shouldn't be made of fragile plastic, in my opinion. Who was the engineer for this project?

The toilet flush valve in one of the bathrooms broke down so I quickly ordered this replacement. It arrived the next day and the plumber installed it first thing in the morning the next day. It was quick, easy, and a huge relief. Because this is a Kohler valve and we are confident in its quality, we are confident that it will last for many years. So my sister immediately ordered three more for other bathrooms. We highly recommend this.
