We have replaced old Kidde smoke alarms with this new version from Smoke/CO. The six blocks fit perfectly into the three-story system. The only downside was that every time you added a unit, the whole system went through a test run. So there were six voice calls and alarms to go through before it was all done. The tones are very shrill, which is needed in an emergency; but they were a bit embarrassing during installation.

If you have frequent power outages, I don't recommend a wired alarm. Get the battery-only version. I have 6 of these, replacing the hardware versions I had. When the power went out, all the alarms began to sound loudly, announcing "fire" and "carbon monoxide." The good news is that they can be stopped by pressing down on the battery compartment and allowing the battery to tilt. He stops. When power returns, close it. I used a broom. Much luck! This is very cool. I was wondering if this unit would work well with the existing Kidde unit in my house as I only need to replace 1 unit with a new one. This is our second kidde in two years for our bedroom. The latter started dropping out in the middle of the night, possibly because we were using a humidifier in the winter. I decided it was a manufacturing defect so I bought it. A week after installation, it turned off after I got out of the shower. I checked the thermostat, the room is only 60% humidity and in our state in the summer it's usually 90%. I can't think of any other reason why this could be happening, but it's useless nonetheless.
