Review on Gates 38191 Belt Tensioner Assembly by Bob Vulpes

Gates is my first choice for belts and hoses and I almost never have a problem with their products. But this tensioner has a design flaw that puts the adjustment molding too close to the belt and in the case of my car it was actually rubbing against the belt! At first I thought the strap was too long, but the same thing happened with replacing the strap. I ended up paying another $20 for Hayden's role and it worked; The square of the adjuster was now at least 1/2 inch from the belt. This can be a very serious problem and can leave you stranded, which is why I strongly recommend only using Motorcraft or Hayden idlers for 7.3 Powerstroke. Gates makes excellent rubber products. but pay attention to mechanical products!
