Review on Patons Classic Wool Roving Yarn by Carrie Spencer

Stinks when wet and shrinks impressively

Wanted to add this update - the socks I made shrinked incredibly so I would suggest no garments to wear made of yarn tumble dry. Original Review - I've never crocheted with wool yarn and wanted to try it and it was so cheap I agreed. It's a little tricky to work with as its microfilaments are constantly separating from the main string. Not as bad as I crochet, but a real pain when I had to pull out a few rows. Tiny loose threads secured the seams and kept them from unraveling. Also, the socks I knit with this yarn don't smell very good after washing. I washed them in the regular wash and then tumble dried them. Everything else was dry, but not the socks, and they smelled like wet dog. So I hung them outside for a few days, then brought them inside and left them outside to air them for a few more days before feeling safe to put them in a drawer. The socks feel nice and I look forward to wearing them as slippers this winter. But I don't look forward to the ordeal and airing every time I wash them. I have other wool socks, thick ones that I haven't made, and they wash and dry well. So I don't know what the problem with this yarn is. Allegedly washable.
