This is a really great pencil sharpener at a rather high price. But if you're serious about your pencils and how to sharpen them, you might very well be. I don't mean to be pejorative, but if you can't use this point successfully, you don't need to practice with it a bit more or it's too good a tool for your purposes. I would recommend changing blades from time to time. If $32 for a pencil sharpener is too much, I'd recommend checking out the m+r round sharpener - it's also excellent and less than half its price. Also a great two tier kum sharpener that is less than half the price of a round sharpener. You don't have to pay more than $30 for a great pencil sharpener. But if you don't mind, it's great.
