Review on DEWALT DW22952 16 Inch IMPACT Socket by Tanner Miller

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great outlet but can't beat Rome's greed.

This head is fine. This is the third outlet I've bought to get one that fits the water heater anode rod screw so I can replace it. I've tried a one and a sixteenth, I've tried 26mm and 27mm, I've tried short and deep heads, nothing seems to catch the anode rod bolt. In my Rand water heater, the screw to loosen the anode rod is recessed about 1 inch. Some outlets have an outside diameter that is too large to fit in the recess. This Dewalt is definitely great in two areas: its OD is narrow enough to fit in a recess, and it's an impact socket so it can handle the load if I need to use an impact wrench, and it's a deep socket, though I don't do this. I don't think the anode rod is so deep that you even need a deep socket. The only thing I can think of is what Rheem will do to get consumers to call a Rheem repairman for something as simple as unscrewing and screwing in a new anode rod. There's no reason they had to make the outside diameter of the recess so narrow that the standard outlet everyone has in their garage wouldn't fit. There's no reason in the world they even had to countersink the anode rod bolt. Neither the cold water inlet nor the hot water outlet are recessed, so why bother making such an elaborate recess on the anode rod?
