The new outer ring is the same size as the original ring, but the screw holes are not exactly in place. However, I kept turning it and eventually found that the 4 holes aligned almost perfectly and the other 2 were close enough. I was hoping to just take the cap off the new ring and fit the old ring, but the old hole in the rim is larger so the cap can't be screwed in. Rather fail! In order not to lose the new lid I use gorilla glue and attach some styrofoam/floating material to the inside of the lid so if it slides into the water it at least doesn't disappear into deep waters and never be seen. again. where the previous cover accidentally fell off.
