This direct drive opener was easy to install and worked great on my door. But my garage door came with a direct drive opener, so it was easy for me. It was actually easier to install than a chain driven ceiling opener. I had several issues detailed below. Before you buy, however, you should make sure that your current garage door system meets the following requirements: First: Check whether the torsion bar protrudes far enough from the base plate. I am attaching a picture of the latch and backing plate on my door. It had a lot of extension as you only need 1.5 inches (see picture). Second, make sure your torsion bar is at least 3 inches below the ceiling. Mine was a foot and a half shorter. Third, make sure the drum holding the wire attached to the bottom of the door (center in the first picture) is between 4 and 6 inches in diameter. The one in the picture is 4.5 inches in diameter. Fourth: Check the horizontality of the torsion bar. As you can see in the second photo, my torsion bar has a slight bend, it's lower in the middle than at the two ends. I had to move the middle baseplate up half an inch to make it horizontal, which was quite difficult. But it was worth it. A slight bend will cause the opener to work much harder because not only is energy wasted lifting the door, but the torsion bar is also deformed. Fifth, the end of the torsion bar where you want to install the opener must be at least a wall. If any of these conditions don't suit me, you have a problem that is best resolved by hiring a professional. In fact, the second and fifth states are most likely too expensive to repair, so do not buy this opener. The guide is great, but it asks you to do some things that are completely unnecessary during a test install. First you will be asked to remove the old knife. That is unnecessary. To ensure your new opener will work, it is best to leave the other opener installed, but completely disconnect and remove the rod that connects the chain drive to the door. Then move the plate, which moves along the metal track and is connected to the door, to the fully open position by pressing the button to open the door. Now you can proceed with the installation to make sure everything is working before uninstalling the old opener. Likewise, you don't need to install an electrical outlet within 6 feet of the blade. You can stretch out a heavy-duty extension cord to check everything before you do this. The only two issues I had with the installation were having to move the center hub up (as detailed above) and installing a cable tension sensor. This required cutting off a section of drywall and using spacers to position it correctly. But it was more annoying than difficult. The door opener is much quieter and it was worth all day installing it. The high beam, door controls and premium remote all work well. I ignored the management's suggestion not to use LED bulbs as this is a common misconception. You can buy Revain LED bulbs that won't interfere with your garage door. Look for A19 LED garage door opener lights and you will find them.
