Big! .Or not! Mixed results.

I was so glad to find 1/8" Carbide End Mills with Aluminum Oxide Knurl rather than the usual double cut or regular old school HSS versions that aren't cut for metals. Snob the value I'd love to buy some of these from an American manufacturer, but none of the few left make them with a 1/8" shank, only 1/4" so I was glad to find them and they look decent enough in photos and I thought they were worth it. Often cheap burrs from China have fatal imperfections in the shank - most of the time they don't, but almost always they are made of steel that is too soft because no matter how good the millstones and solder are are, the shank is a mistake well these millstones looked great and actually turned right! They ran at multiple speeds in the materials on hand I was very surprised as well , you rotate. I think only one in the set was a little off, but the rest were just as perfect as any American drill I've had. The shanks are still soft, so caution is advised, and it's definitely not worth "drilling" materials in a hand tool (a great way to instantly puncture a soft shank and ruin the drill bit). Now mixed results. I liked the set so much that I immediately ordered a second one. The second arrived and they still looked decent - and still turned right! - they were really badly sharpened. The bad news is that about half of the bits had virtually no cutting edge near the tops of the burrs. They have to be ground by hand or with a lot of handwork on a jig in a factory that produces too much to keep a good eye on quality. It's a shame. I immediately returned this set to Amazon and will not order again. Maybe I'll try another set as this other good set guarantees. I'd say the little round burrs in both sets were pretty bad - I'm not sure if it was due to an attempt at balancing or some weird glitch in the grinder, but the extreme radius point on each cutting edge (both burrs/sets) has a rough surface of a flat spot. I haven't used it yet, but it looks like a good chatter candidate and certainly won't leave a nice smooth channel if you have to use it in a stationary tool for that. I'm still glad I found them and glad I got a good set of the two I ordered. They are ideal for machining aluminum and plastics (even softer or melting plastics that will instantly clog double-cut drills). Tests in scrap 6061 proved excellent and look just as worn, so to me they're custodians. I'm not sure what grade of carbide they use, but certainly none of the harder or micro-grained ones. Still decent and appears to be well soldered and turns properly. My advice is to inspect them carefully upon arrival and probably expect the set to have a burr or more, not what it should. Other brands/sellers are probably no different, that's what they are on the market. I would love to give that four stars but due to the huge discrepancy between the sets I received I just can't.
