Review on Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice 2 205/50 R17 93T winter by Jnis Kalni ᠌

Perfect product for any user!

I decided to change my father's tires for Skoda Superb 2.0 TSI (200 hp) AT. Tire size: 225/45 R17 94T. Prior to that, last winter I used Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice Arctic (studs) 205/55 R16 94T, this year I regretted it a lot (I drove Skoda for about a month): endless slipping (you can calmly start moving only very smoothly); low directional stability at speeds from 120 km / h; very noisy (although it must be said that Superb has mediocre sound insulation). As a result, having doubts about the safety of the ride, I decided to change the wheels to a larger size R17, and, according to the sensations of using the Nokian R2 on my car, I decided to take the Velcro. I chose between Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice 2 and Continental ContiVikingContact 6, in the end I took Ice 2 and did not regret it. The car just changed: the very first thing after leaving the tire shop was silence . moreover, you really can’t hear how the tires go on asphalt, it’s very similar in acoustics to summer, of course, tires are already audible on asphalt with rubble; it is worth noting the very good handling on asphalt, and no matter what the weather, absolutely the same control predictability; slippage has been reduced to a minimum, now, if necessary, a sharp start is possible; it goes well in the snow, in deep snow, though I didn’t stop by, so there are no comments here; on ice, the behavior is confident, after all, "Scandinavian Velcro"; I didn’t check it on clean ice, and where can I get it in the city ?, but I think it will yield to the studded one. A small comparison with the Hakka R2 can be found in my review of it. As a result, we have: tires are mainly for the city / highway, you can (presumably) use them in rural areas, as well. very comfortable on the pavement, do not give up in a swept yard and are not afraid of either severe frosts or small positive temperatures. Goodyear finally has a great tire to recommend without a doubt.

Pros
  • Excellent performance on asphalt and snow; excellent acoustic comfort; moderate price; soft, high quality rubber.
Cons
  • On ice, it will yield to studded tires, on icy conditions it is slightly worse than Nokian Hakka R2 (perhaps due to the drive to one axle - the front).
