nice piece of steel - hand tool

The carbon steel in this tool appears to be of good quality - it arrived very sharp and with a little attention and light sharpening it will now cut through fabric and leather with little effort. Not stainless steel so it will rust, polish and leave some oil on if you want it to shine. The shaft is smooth enough to easily open the starting hole to size, and the orange handle provides a secure grip. A wine bottle cork (not a composite one, but a real one) serves as a handy protection for the sharp end in a toolbox. A good all-purpose tool that will last for decades with occasional use. If I was working on leather all day I would prefer a gourd shaped grip to minimize the likelihood of blisters due to the wider contact area with the palm, but nice wooden grips will roll unless they have a flat surface and tend to to function. becomes weaker as the wood shrinks. So if you don't plan to use the tool daily and wear it out, this is a good choice.
