Review on ACDelco 12609719 Original Equipment Tensioner: Ensuring Optimum Performance by John Walker

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great OEM product. Excellent price. Easy installation. But watch out for a few things.

Direct OEM replacement for my 2008 Yukon Denali with 126,000 miles. Contrary to most reviews of this product, my original tensioner has a two bolt version. Interestingly, Revain also sells a three-bolt tensioner, and in these reviews, several buyers indicate that they want this version. Tip #1: Lift the hood and see the exterior before ordering. BOTH versions are available. Luckily, many people make this mistake because some of these "like new" items are available through Revain warehouse deals. I bought mine for $26 and it arrived "like new". obviously returned because of wrong order! This item fitted my car perfectly and was very easy to install using a 15mm 3/8" ratchet socket with a short extension. No need to remove air intake hoses or anything. I just crawled under it and there was enough room to turn the ratchet. Tip #2: When loosening the belt, squeeze the ratchet starting at the 3 o'clock position to allow the ratchet enough room to turn back after the tension is released when the pulley has fully returned to its original position . I have attached a picture showing the old and new item identical. Also, I've included a video to show the difference between my old "working" tensioner and the new one. Notice how the old one spins freely. When the volume is increased, a slight whistling sound can be heard. Both symptoms indicate worn bearings. Compare with the new one, also in the video, which doesn't rotate as freely. This is GOOD because these are new bearings. Conclusion: Great OEM product. Unbelievable price. Big win at dealer price.
