Review on Optimized Exo Terra Hinged Door Screen Cover by Pete Norris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exactly what I wanted, albeit with a slightly looser fit. An overview of reptile care.

This case is MEAT and should easily carry the weight of, for example, a curious cat or a medium-sized lizard hanging upside down because it's sick. The mesh is thick enough that I'm not worried about my animals poking/pulling holes in it with their claws, although I think a medium to large sized dog could do it. A person would have to use tools to break the net himself, but bending the frame or breaking the net from the frame would be entirely doable. I bought this for an old 40 gallon grow tank. As mentioned in other reviews, this is not a comfortable fit, but is adequate for most animals. Other reviews indicate that it works great with furry pets like hamsters and rats. If you are using this product with clips I would say that you can use this product to securely hold any medium sized thick bodied lizard or snake in the aquarium. It wouldn't hold anoles or long-tailed lizards because of the gaps near the hinges, and I personally wouldn't use it for calluses or other thin-bodied rat snakes, but it would easily hold a bearded dragon, uromastix, or adult ball python (probably will work for young boas, but I personally haven't worked with boas much). However, I think a hatched ball python might escape and I will probably only use this case for adult BPs, which definitely weigh over 1000g (note some males never reach this size). As a disclaimer, as you review this product, consider whether 40 gallons really is best for you and your pet. Of the ones I've mentioned, most work better in a larger case. While smaller BDs can thrive in a 40-gallon nursery, many require larger enclosures. Most BP will be fine at 40 gallons, but this is very dependent on your particular animal.
