Boxster from 2000 - Works great

My Boxster's ignition key got a little 'crunchy', especially in cold weather. A couple of times I couldn't even turn the key to start it, leading to, um, frustration. Now that spring is here, it's time to replace that switch. This beauty slid right into my 2000 Boxster. All it took was some newfound acrobatics and the right size flathead screwdriver. The hardest part was with a screwdriver - it's tight there. I ended up using a screwdriver about 1.5 inches long with a relatively large, easy-grip handle so I could apply enough torque to it. UPDATE: 24 MONTHS LATER. Well, it turns out that this new switch, much like my Boxster's original ignition switch, was beginning to failβ€”it was harder to turn in cold weather. And now there seems to be some sort of internal bug where the auxiliary circuit stays on even when the ignition key is in the "off" position. This means that the battery will be discharged quickly. I ordered a replacement but now I think they really aren't very well designed and/or made. The original lasted 14 years, the replacement two years.

Cons
  • Older model
