I would never trust a gas spring to hold my bed up so I knew I would do something to support it when it did lift. All I needed was help lifting my extremely heavy, hard to move memory foam mattress with my 20 pound blanket on top. They were easy to install and now we can have under bed storage in our van (we didn't have an elevator before). The bed doesn't hold up, but I don't need it. This will NOT allow the plywood to remain closed without something sitting on it. They were inexpensive and did exactly what I needed. I use PVC to support the bed after getting up.
