I installed these gas struts on an outdoor bench I built as part of an integrated planter system for my garden. Since this wasn't a common application, I calculated the weight of the wood I was using and ordered these 100lb shocks and they delivered. In the end, all I needed was a shock to lift the top. You must order mounts to use this product if you are installing it on something that doesn't already have it. A few other things I learned during the installation - the knockers arrived at my door fully installed. I tried to compress them manually but to no avail, after installing it was no problem. Also, the mounts I bought were ball joints, the gas strut installs easily by pushing it into place and this allows the mounts to move easily.
