Review on Renewed Arris Touchstone CM8200A DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem - Ultra Fast 32x8 Gigabit Speeds (Black) by Leslie Smith

sketch repair. Unit -- So far so good

Product as advertised. It took several reboots to display the modem activation webpage in Cox's Garden. Downlink is enabled on 3.1 DOCSIS as expected, uplink supports 3.0 for some reason but I don't care and the problem probably isn't with the modem itself. I bought this unit because an upgrade to Cox Gigablast Internet (requires DOCSIS 3.1) was cheaper than the current Internet/TV "package" we currently have. The reason for the 3 stars is the recommendation. The quality of these devices is questionable at best. My device comes with a 12V/1.5A power adapter with TV direct output. The modem says it needs a 12V/2A block. Also, upon arrival, the direct tv power supply broke. One of the connector wires was bent to shit and was dangling from the outside of the case. I ended up getting a 12V/1A power supply from an older Arres SB6190 I had lying around and so far so good, no instability or power outages. Let's see how 50% power consumption will affect the device in the future. It is truly unforgivable that such an expensive refurbished unit ($124.95) should come with a weak AND defective power supply from an independent brand.

Pros
  • Looking forward to it
Cons
  • The list will be long.
